Privacy Policy

Seriesly ("we", "our", or "the app") is a personal TV series and movie tracker built for Android. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We are committed to keeping your data minimal and secure.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the app's core features:

Account credentials — A username and hashed password stored locally on your device. We never store plaintext passwords.
Watchlists and ratings — Lists you create and ratings you assign to series and movies, synced to your personal Firebase account so you can restore them on a new device.
Watch progress — Which episodes and movies you have marked as watched, synced in the same way.

We do not collect your real name, phone number, location, contacts, device identifiers, or any advertising identifiers.

2. How We Use Your Information

To display your watchlists, ratings, and progress across sessions.
To restore your data when you sign in on a new device.
To diagnose crashes and improve app stability (via Firebase Crashlytics — see below).

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

3. Third-Party Services

TVDB API (thetvdb.com)
Series and movie metadata (titles, descriptions, artwork, episode lists) is fetched from the TVDB v4 API. Your personal data is never sent to TVDB. Requests contain only content identifiers (e.g. a series ID). TVDB's own privacy policy applies to their service.

Firebase (Google LLC)
We use two Firebase services:

Cloud Firestore — stores your watchlists, ratings, and progress under a unique user ID. Data is protected by Firestore security rules that allow only you to read or write your own documents.
Firebase Crashlytics — collects anonymised crash reports (stack traces, device model, OS version) to help us fix bugs. No personally identifiable information is included in crash reports.

Google's privacy policy applies to all Firebase services: policies.google.com/privacy

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored locally in an encrypted SQLite database on your device (Android Keystore).
Cloud sync data is stored in Firebase Firestore with per-user security rules.
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt before storage — we never hold your plaintext password.
All network communication uses HTTPS. The app does not allow cleartext traffic.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. To delete all your data, uninstall the app (this wipes the local database) and contact us at the email below to request deletion of your Firestore data. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

6. Children's Privacy

Seriesly is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
